Next chance to seePosted by Brendan Mon, July 12, 2010 17:53:20So, been a bit quiet in recent months on the Navvies blog. No, we haven't retired, fallen out or become generally dispirited. We've just been busy doing stuff - this and that, you know?
But now we've nearly finished doing this and that and are ready to do something else. Couple of gigs coming up, both private parties sadly (well sadly for those who have to go to them and listen to us anyway). But the big news is the forthcoming recording session at the end of July when the band hope to be able to record 3 or 4 tracks to put out on a mini-CD. And the best bit is we have been able to acquire the services of one of the world's truly great recording engineers - no, really! The fantastic Phil Harding will be working with us following on from his worldwide success with the likes of Kylie Minogue, Depeche Mode, The Clash, Boyzone and many others too numerous to mention. You think I'm joking don't you, but no, all completely serious.
We hope to be able to get the CD out in about 6 weeks or so - ordering information will follow soon.
Also we have been asked to play again at the Bury St Edmunds Christmas Fayre on Saturday 27th November - evening session - so come along and see us then. It's free!
Next chance to seePosted by Brendan Sat, November 28, 2009 10:54:55Wow, a big thanks to everyone that came along to see us on Angel Hill on friday night. It was a blast. We had a great time and loved seeing so many people dancing in the street in front of the stage. Well done to you all even if you were only doing it to keep warm. It was a bit nippy wasn't it?
Hats off to the organisers and event managers, especially Robert Everitt who does such a good job every year compering the stage. Can't wait for next year.
Next chance to seePosted by Brendan Mon, November 16, 2009 16:42:35So what are you doing on Friday 27th November, say around 5.00pm? Well, if you're not already planning to come along to Angel Hill in Bury St Edmunds to visit the fabulous Christmas Fayre then get yourself sorted and put it in your diary - now! Make you way straight to the big stage and prepare to be entertained for the next 2 hours or so by The Invisible Navvies of Utopia. We'll be on stage sometime between 5.00 and 5.30 and are looking forward to seeing you all there.
Next chance to seePosted by Brendan Mon, June 08, 2009 10:04:22What a great night that was then! Becky's birthday was celebrated last saturday evening at the Howard Community Centre in fine style. Seldom have we seen so many people so keen to dance for so long. well done to you all - you deserve medals. It was also a chance for the band to try out a couple of new tunes and songs which we have been rehearsing over the last few weeks. The new version of 'Old Dan Tucker / Old Joe Clark' seemed to go down really well.
Next Saturday sees us at St Edmund's Club in Bury St Edmunds for a ceili - details on our website here. And the saturday after we're off to Southwold to play at a wedding. It's been a busy month!
Next chance to seePosted by Brendan Sun, March 22, 2009 13:41:00The recently unveiled addition to Ann Harvey's stage setup has been the cause of much speculation and intense interest from the music industry in general. In the past week we have received no less than 1 inquiry from companies interested in this revolutionary new product.
However, for the time being, the object has had to be removed from the stage as it is soon to become the focus of a bidding war between rival companies interested in developing it further. So for now Ann has resorted to one of the more standard devices for holding her instruments on stage - see our gallery for new pictures taken at the gig in Thetford on Saturday 21st March. Great night, by the way. They sure do know how to dance in that town. We had a great time and would like to thank everyone for being so enthusiastic and for making us feel very welcome.
Next chance to seePosted by Brendan Mon, March 16, 2009 21:27:32Saturday night at St Louis Middle School was a chance for the thousands that attended this great fund-raising event (see below) to witness the unveiling of a minor technological miracle - Ann Harvey's new instrument holder. Being the player of so many different instruments Ann often has to switch between, say, whistle and flute in barely the blink of an eye and so needs them all close at hand. Scientific minds from all over the room got together and solved her problem in no more than a few hours and the result was stunning. To get the full effect of their invention see the images in our gallery - click here.
Prepare to be amazed!
See you on Saturday 21st March - Carnegie rooms, Thetford.
Next chance to seePosted by Brendan Mon, February 09, 2009 09:13:59A busy few months coming up for The Navvies then. We're gonna be out and about quite a bit and we'd love to see you all. Things kick off on March 14th at St Louis Middle School, Bury St Edmunds where we will be playing in support of a really good cause and you can help too. Two good teacher friends of the band are going off to teach in Zambia for the next two years. They are giving up their paid jobs here and will not be paid whilst they are out there. On top of that they will have to pay rent for their living accommodation and school fees for their two children. So we would like to help them in some way. If you would like to help as well then come along to St Louis (St Andrews St South) and dance the night away. Tickets cost a mere £5 and are available by ringing 01284 760835.
The weekend after that we'll be providing the music for the Ceili at the Carnegie Rooms in Thetford. This event is being held to support Cancer Research and will include a display of Irish dancing. Tickets are available from http://www.gary-winter.com/cms.php?pageid=13 - why not come along and support another great cause.
Next chance to seePosted by Brendan Sat, December 20, 2008 18:31:58We had a great time last weekend a the Disability Ceili arranged by Terry and Steve from the Milkmaid Folk Club. It was a brilliant evening and the large number of people who came along seemed to enjoy themselves to the full. A big thank-you to all the people there for making the band feel so welcome and for looking after us during the evening.
